Role & Function :
The A. H. & Vety. Department has an important role to play in uplifting the socio economy of the people of the Sub-division particularly in rural areas through livestock and poultry farming. Various dispensaries and aid centres have been set up to cater to the needs of the people regarding proper health and hygiene of animals. Awareness programmes, insurance of animals of individual farmers, vaccination programmes and treatment of cases in various dispensaries etc. are carried out so as to serve the people to the utmost ability. Shella Vety. Dispensary still functions as a temporary checkpost against bird flu like diseases in addition to itsnormal functions.

Schemes undertaken :
- Pig Farm , Sohra which is located at Laitryngew started way back in 2005. It is still functioning well inspite of the fact that no regular staff except for 2(two) labourers as caretakers are present till date even though proposals have been made on and off for strengthening the farm.(photographs enclosed).
- Besides that, the department through the state government has extended support in rural areas by way of implementing subsidy schemes on dairy,piggery,poultry and goattery so as to enhance animal production accrued as to improve the subsidiary income of the farmers.
