The broad objective :

The broad objective underlying any water supply are :

  1. (i) To supply safe and wholesome water to the consumers
  2. (ii) To supply water in adequate quantity
  3. (iii) To made water easily available to consumer so as to encourage personal and household cleanliness
  4. (iv) To improve the Health condition of the community

In order that water should be safe and wholesome, it must satisfy the criterion of being least harmful upon consumption. Wholesome water is usually one which is unpolluted free from toxic substance as well as excessive amount of mineral and organic matter.

To supply water in adequate quantity would mean that quantities of water as required by the community would be amply available.

As the rural areas are under developed and they have no requisite funds to have their own portable water supply system as feasible for the growth of rural economy and better health

All these Objectives therefore in order to be attainable should be viewed from the Public Health Workers which is a necessity.
