The Right to Information Act mandates that information should be accessible and made easily available to the public. Keeping this underlying philosophy in mind, the Office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Sohra, East Khasi Hills District planned to bring out an official website not only for the office but one for the entire Sohra Civil Sub-Division. Hence, this website is a platform for all the departments in the Sohra Civil Sub-Division to share information on the various programmes and activities of the respective departments. The website also provides useful information about the different branches of the office and is published as per the format of section 4 of the RTI Act, 2005.

The unique feature of the website is the Tourism Portal which provides information on all the tourist destinations of the Sub-Division. World over, Sohra or Cherrapunjee is famous for being one of the rainiest places. The rains attract tourists from all over. However, the Sohra experience is not limited to the rains and waterfalls and there are other activities that hold great promise. Adventure tourism like caving and trekking, Eco-Tourism and home stays to experience the village life, Heritage tourism to explore history and culture, are activities that are gaining popularity and attracting more and more tourists. The Tourism Portal is an endeavour to provide comprehensive information on all these aspects in one platform, including details of hotels and restaurants. We hope to obtain valuable feedback from the citizen and to regularly update the information so that it is useful to the public.

The website of the Sohra Civil Sub-Division was planned and envisaged more than a year ago and has seen the light of day due to the collaborative effort of many. A special thanks to Smti. R.V. Suchiang, IAS, Commissioner of Division, and Shri Sanjay Goyal, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District for their encouragement and support. I would like to thank all the officers and heads of different departments in the sub-division. I thank the Tourism Department and others who have contributed write-ups and photographs. Finally a special thanks to Mr. C.J.Kharshiing, Asstt. System Engineer and Ms. D. Kharhujon, Asst. ASE for their effort and time spent in designing and building the website, the outcome of which is highly appreciated. We will be happy to receive any feedback so that we continue to improve the website.
